Paeony by HOKE a Rebranding

Welcome to Paeony!

This space, formerly known as Life with Kendra, needed a little bit of a face lift. I had been trying to come up with something to call my "brand" for a long time. Although I was entirely unaware of where I wanted to take it or what I wanted to do with it. I just knew that it needed to have a name; and Life with Kendra (this blog), and KOliphantDesigns (my previous etsy page) weren't giving me the professionalism that I had been looking for. I felt that having a seemingly real "brand" was the first step towards creating something that could be a lifelong passion project.

Paeony by HOKE gave me the meaning, the professionalism and the structure that I had been searching for. Now I have big dreams and ideas always swirling.

So, why Paeony? And what is HOKE??

Paeony is just a more scientific name for Peony, yes, as in the flower. I chose this for a few reasons.

First, my grandmother loved peonies, she loved all flowers. She was an avid gardener and a talented green thumb. I don't think there was a plant that she couldn't save.

Secondly, peonies represent love, honor, happiness, and beauty. All qualities Grandma also possessed. She spent over 60 years married to my grandfather, who spent his career teaching chemistry at a local high school. Which is part of the reason I chose the scientific spelling over the more common version.

Grandma also had many other talents as well, painting, piano, sewing, singing.. She was an artist, a creative soul, and a role model not only to her grandchildren but to all people around her. This is where HOKE comes in. HOKE is my initials, rearranged to spell my grandmothers maiden name, Hoke, which means respected. As you can see a fitting name for a highly respected woman.

Lastly, the color scheme has also changed. From a young teal and pink to a more sophisticated black and white. I wanted this brand to exude elegance. I wanted something clean and reliable, practical and mature. I believe black and white give it that feeling.
